COALINGA – An early morning shooting on July 15 in Coalinga ended with the arrest of 19-year-old Bernardo Gonzalez. The shooting resulted in one person’s injury in the area of Eats Polk and North Hachman.
As police made their way to the scene they rerouted to East Valley Street, the location of a gunshot victim.
Police located the victim, 28-year old Antonio Avila, and treated him at the scene until transportation arrived to take him to Regional Medical Center in Fresno. He suffered three gunshot wounds is currently in stable condition.
With Avila on his way to receive medical attention, officers headed to the 100 block of North Hachman. As a matter of fact it was their original destination.
Officers searched the area and located empty shell casings. As they were sweeping the scene for more evidence, they heard gunshots nearby.
Officers headed in the direction of the gunshots and spotted a vehicle leaving the scene. Then they stopped the car, driven by Gonzalez.
A search of Gonzalez’s car resulted in the discovery of a loaded magazine and a switchblade. Interestingly, police arrested Gonzalez in relation to the shooting but did not charge him as the person who shot Avila.
