Santa Barbara County – The SBSD initiated a burglary bust on a recent resdiential burglary. Late on the night of July 18th, the SBC Public Safety Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress at a Montecito residence.
The homeowner made the call while hiding inside the house as multiple suspects broke into the home. Due to the suspects encountering the victim, they immediately “fled outside the front door.”
SBSD deputies responding to the 911 call waited for them outside. One deputy fired at a suspect who was carrying what appeared to be a handgun. That shot apparently missed its target, as the two intruders took off running.
Additional law enforcement support was quickly on the scene, with both SBSD and CHP units promptly securing a perimeter and searching the neighborhood. With armed men roaming the streets of one of the country’s most elite residential areas, a “reverse 911 emergency notification” ordered the nearby populace “to shelter in place.”
These all arrived at the scene –
- A Sheriff’s K-9 team,;
- SBSD air support helicopter;
- deputies from the SBSD Special Enforcement Team;
- and units of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Thirty minutes later, they discovered 26-year-old Los Angeles resident Adolph Washington “hiding in bushes” just blocks away.
With two other suspects still at large, SBSD called an additional K-9 team from Ventura into action. They initiated “saturation patrols” throughout the night, assisted by members of the SBPD. At approximately 5:30 a.m., they detained “a male juvenile suspect,” but the remaining suspect managed to flee and remains at large at this time.
A handgun was found discarded near the burglary victim’s residence, and the victim was “shaken but unharmed.” Detectives continue to seek out the third suspect, and request anyone with information as to the identity or whereabouts of this individual to contact SBSD detectives at (805) 681-4171.
