REDDING – A violent attacker later encountered the RPD, resulting in his shooting and arrest.
It began on July 23 at 6:00 a.m. That is when the RPD received a call about an attack on a staff member at Shasta High School.
The suspect then fled. About two hours later a residential burglary occurred in the 200 block of Overhill Drive, not far from Shasta High.
The RPD reported, “A pair of swim goggles was found inside the Overhill Drive apartment. These matched a pair of swim goggles the battery suspect was wearing during the Shasta High School incident.”
Next, someone reported a suspicious person on the Sacramento River Trail that matched the assault suspect’s description.
By now it was 9:50 a.m. A RPD officer encountered the suspect int he 600 block of Mary Street. The suspect ignored the officer and reached into his waistband.
The officer fired one round after ignoring multiple commands. Masa Nathaniel Warden, 32 years of age, from Las Vegas, Nevada continued being uncooperative despite his wound.
Two other responding officers “fired at the suspect.” Turns out Warden merely “simulated that he had a weapon.” His wounds are not life-threatening.
Warden “has an active warrant for his arrest charging him with violating the conditions of his parole.” The parole was for kidnapping, battery and resisting arrest.
The RPD also notes that “Warden recently arrived in the Redding area after meeting a prostitute in Las Vegas. She brought him to Shasta County.”
Masa’s charges include obstruction and threats on an officer. Warden will face additional charges for felony residential burglary, felony criminal threats and battery on a school official.
After his stint in the hospital, he will then go to the Shasta County Jail.
Finally, RPD says, “No additional details about this investigation will be provided as it is an open and ongoing investigation.”
