CASTROVILLE – In a way, the arrest of a carjacking gang member seemed too easy for the Watsonville PD.
On Saturday July 21 deputies arrived at the Valero 76 Station on Merritt Street at 8:00 a.m. Two men robbed a customer as he pumped gas.
The thieves relieved the victim of $360 and his SUV. However, the suspect was unable to get away and deputies arrested him on site.
18-year-old Philip Martinson, and admitted gang member, had “a real looking” B.B. gun.
Later that same day officers located another carjacked vehicle. It turns out that Martinson had also stolen that car earlier in the day.
Martinson’s charges are robbery, carjacking and his bail is $500,000.
