RED BLUFF – A felon is not allowed to possess a loaded firearm. In addition, if a felon possesses a stolen AR-15, he opens himself up to legal consequences.
Such was the case for 49-year-old Dennis Charles Silva Jr. on August 4 at 3:00 p.m. Silva drove a 2002 Nissan Exterra as it pulled a trailer at Byron Avenue and Gilmore Road.
An officer stopped Silva becasue he did not have a rerar license plate. That opened the door to a more intrusive search.
Deputies learned that Silva was on Post Release Community Supervision. Therefore, they searched his vehicle, where they found a loaded .32 semiautomatic pistol.
Investigators then searched the suspect’s trailer as well. There they found a 12-gauge shotgun and a loaded stolen AR-15 rifle.
The TCSO also reports “copious amounts of ammunition in bandoliers and high capacity loaded magazines.” A bandolier is “a pocketed belt for holding ammunition”(Wikipedia).
