Shooter ID’ed, Victim Remains Unknown, in Safeway Shooting

PALO ALTO – PAPD arrested the shooter in a recent incident but his victim remains unknown and absent. The shooting occurred in a Safeway parking lot on August 3.

However, investigators are still searching for the victim in the incident. It started with the shooting suspect confronting the victim in the Safeway parking lot located at 2811 Middlefield Road.

Police are still asking why 37-year-old Christian David Poppe of Henderson, Nevada fired at a black male victim. He then fled in a Lexus SUV.   Police published requests for the victim to come forward through social media and news reports.

During the investigation, investigators were able to track the suspect after information led them to Contra Costa county.

Walnut Creek Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team and personnel from the Danville Police Department teamed up. They made an arrest on August 8 at about 6:22 p.m. Officers located the suspect driving in the 500 block of San Ramon Valley Boulevard in Danville.

According to PAPD Captain Zach Perron, “Police recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun inside the suspect’s vehicle. (The vehicle is) a black 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.”
