LA VERNE – Officers responding to a 4 AM burglary alarm at the Inland Dairy Store found a tunnel leading to the business.
First, broken chips of wood could seen around a hole in the wall, leading to a black metal grate.
Next, a quick establishment around the perimeter of the business with an announcement of police presence revealed the suspect.
Rudy Mindiola of Pomona crawled out from between two of the store’s refrigeration units, wearing a makeshift white cloth mask.
Subsequently, investigators determined Mindiola had tunneled his way into the business in order to steal property in the store.
Officers recovered burglary tools and stolen property during a search of the exterior.
As a result, officers arrested the burrowing burglar for commercial burglary and possession of burglary tools.
La Verne PD released the August 17 surveillance footage this week. Mindiola later obtained his temporary freedom on a $20,000 bond.
