SAN MATEO – A violent 7-11 robbery early on Saturday morning August 18 soon resulted in arrests of the two robbers.
The call to SMPD came in at 4:30 a.m. The robbers left behind an injured clerk and empty tills. The press release describes his injuries as “serious.”
With a description obtained from surveillance footage, officers broadcast a description of the two suspects.
Shortly after, the SMPD received another call about another incident. This time a gas station attendant called to report a disturbance. The description of the individual from this new incident matched the description of one of the robbers.
Officers arrived at the gas station and ultimately detained a suspect who struggled with them. 21-year-old Melton Nau fought and unsuccessfully tried to flee. After detaining him, officers determined that Nau was one of the 7-11 suspects.
The second suspect remained on the loose and the investigation continued and intensified. The next night at 11:45 p.m. officers arrested 18-year-old Talia Opeti in the 1200 block of Polk Street.
Opeti had a loaded, stolen firearm in his possession.
Charges for the pair include robbery, assault and conspiracy. Nau’s charges also include threat, resisting arrest and attempted robbery (gas station).
