MARTELL – The Walmart thieves had a tire strapped on top of their SUV. Thus, it was very likely that cops would quickly spot them.
Such was the case on August 23 when Reno residents Thomas Burtt and Mary Adams visited the retailer.
The couple walked out with $574.00 worth of merchandise without paying for it. They drove away in a white SUV. Usually that might be a vehicle that easily blend sin with other white SUVs.
However, their getaway vehicle had a tire strapped on top, a veritable “arrest me” sign.
Unsurprisingly, “just a few minutes later,” a deputy saw the SUV and conducted a traffic stop on it. He saw some of the stolen items in the SUV.
Video surveillance and witness confirmation soon established the pair as the thieves.
Their charges are shoplifting, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and outstanding warrants.
The press release states, “All of the stolen property was recovered and returned to Walmart.” It adds, “Our sincere thanks to the Walmart staff and alert witnesses for helping us make these arrests possible.”
