Santa Barbara – The would-be rapist was unable to commit his crime. Judging by the injuries evident on the face of 29-year-old Angel Anthony Richard Sanchez in his booking mugshot, facing cops with a knife in hand may not be the best way of resisting arrest.
Sanchez earned his wounds on the night of September 3rd. Plainclothes detectives spotted Sanchez “just steps away” from the scene of a violent sexual assault reported just 24 hours earlier.
At that time, a man riding a bicycle approached a local area female resident from behind and blocked her path. He indicated that he had a weapon. Then he grabbed her cellphone and tossed it aside. Then he “pushed her to the ground, threatened her with physical harm” and promptly attempted to sexually assault his victim.
A Good Samaritan who “heard her screams for help drove his vehicle towards the sound. ” Consequently this prevented Sanchez from carrying out the assault, as he quickly fled into the night. Uniformed patrol officers responded to a 911 Emergency call and were given “a good description” of Sanchez.
Detectives spotted Sanchez the following night and made contact with him, whereupon he resisted arrest with “a protracted struggle.” They ultimately took him into custody. Authorities booked him on charges of kidnapping to commit a sexual assault, assault to commit rape, false imprisonment, concealing a weapon upon his person, and resisting arrest.
