PALO ALTO –  A home security system spotted a burglar after he entered a home on the 1900 block of Edgewood Drive.

According to police, “a man reported remotely live-monitoring his security system and could see a burglar inside his home.”

Police responded to the victim’s call, but the suspect had already fled the area and was not immediately located.

However, after several minutes the suspect had been located by detectives who were patrolling the area. They looked  for a red 2015 Honda Civic 2-door vehicle.  As they approached the vehicle they noticed several electronic items placed inside.

Police located and detained the suspect, 20-year-old Miguel Valdovinos Esparza of East Palo Alto at his home.

During a brief search, detectives also located miscellaneous items taken from another burglary. That burglary occurred on Friday, August 31 on the 900 block of Oregon Avenue in Palo Alto.

In the previous burglary a suspect took multiple firearms from the home. However, police located only the empty cases of the firearms.

An investigation into the whereabouts of the firearms continues.  Esparza’s charges are felony burglary and possession of stolen property. He remains booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for further court proceedings.
