OAKLEY — Deputies arrested a man caught with numerous illegal firearms inside his home on September 14. His arrest resulted from an ongoing multi-agency collaboration in Contra Costa County to get weapons off the streets.
Along with several law enforcement agencies, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office targeted another known troublemaker last month. This investigative effort paid off quickly.
In August, authorities found, 46-year-old Oakley resident, Michael C. Wunder, with one unregistered handgun in his possession. His record as a convicted felon obviously prohibits him from having any weapon.
Notwithstanding, law enforcement had reasons to believe one loaded weapon was just the tip of the iceberg for Wunder.
Consequently, the CASE (Contra Costa County Anti-Violence Support Effort) Team targeted Wunder for several weeks. This investigative effort included local, state and federal agencies.
On September 14, the CASE Team executed a search warrant at Wunder’s home at Lake Park Court in Oakley. Their suspicions proved right.
During the search of the home, authorities seized a machine gun, pistols and rifles. In addition, they found an assault weapon in the process of being manufactured, along with milled pistol frames. Authorities also recovered thousands of rounds of ammunition from the residence.
Subsequently, they arrested Wunder and took him to the county jail in Martinez. His charges include felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, and assault rifle. In addition, he faces charges for manufacturing an assault weapon, and illegal possession of ammunition.
