FAIRFIELD — A man received an 11 year sentence for a fraud attempt after his auto accident.
34-year-old Lamont Jarome James rear-ended another vehicle as he drove without insurance.
Then later that day he contacted Sentry Insurance about getting his vehicle insured.
Finally, James “filed a claim the next day, falsely stating the accident occurred after he purchased insurance.”
However, when James contacted the other driver, his ruse began to unravel.
Sentry Insurance then denied his claim and reported him. Apparently James asked the other driver to ” participate in the fraud, to which the other driver refused.”
Finally, James received his 11-year prison sentence for his fraud.
“We hope to send a deterrent message to individuals who think they can game the system after shirking their financial responsibility,” said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. “Every consumer pays for insurance fraud when insurers pass along these losses through higher premiums.”
