HAYWARD — For more than a year, authorities investigated a fatal shooting incident that occurred at a birthday party. The investigation culminated in the recent arrests of three men still in custody.
The shooting happened on April 22, 2017. Someone fatally shot a man leaving a birthday party at College Heights Park, near Fielding Drive. The 21-year-old victim, Santiago Vasquez died at a hospital shortly afterward.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service assisted Hayward police in the investigation that followed.
All three suspects arrested remain behind bars in county jail. In addition, each man faces multiple charges at a court hearing on November 15.
First, Hayward police arrested Carlos Guevara, 24 of San Leandro, on September 26.
Guevara’s bail for release is denied. His charges include murder, and four separate firearms-related charges.
In addition, Guevara also faces more charges for driving with a suspended or revoked drivers license, and two separate DUI charges. Authorities booked him for these charges when they arrested him for the murder.
Next, on October 3, Jose A. Esquivel, 25 of Oakland, was arrested. Esquivel is ineligible for release on bond. His charges include murder, and 10 separate firearms charges.
Finally, Miguel A. Mata, 25 of San Lorenzo, was arrested on October 9. His bond is $270,000 bond. His charges include being an accessory to a crime, robbery, and two firearms charges.
