Visalia Encounters Murderer in Disabled Vehicle; Santa Ana PD Finds Victim in Motel

SANTA ANA – Visalia CHP contacted Santa Ana PD regarding a male in a disabled vehicle who gave spontaneous statements indicating that he may have killed a woman in a Santa Ana motel.
First of all, Milton Louis Mayfield (55) of Anaheim’s car was disabled by the side of the freeway in Tulare County when CHP Visalia arrived the morning of Oct. 17th. The suspect spontaneously detailed a possible killing of a woman in a Santa Ana motel room on October 16th in the area of First Street and Grand Avenue.
Subsequently, the CHP Officers detained Mayfield and provided the information to SAPD. Officers conducted welfare checks at various Santa Ana motels in the area of First Street and Grand Ave.
Finally, officers discovered an unresponsive Deborah Ann Simon (55) of Santa Ana in the Sunshine Village Motel. Paramedics from Orange County Fire Authority declared the victim deceased at 5:21 AM.
SAPD Homicide Section Detectives quickly responded to assume the investigation. CHP Visalia interviewed the suspect and seized the victim’s vehicle. Evidence collected at the crime scene and Milton’s interview led to his arrest for the charge of CPC 187 Murder.
Consequently, Detectives booked Mayfield into Santa Ana City Jail. They have not determined the motive and the manner of the killing. The Orange County Coroner is conducting an autopsy on the victim, prior to releasing the official cause of death.
