REDDING – A passenger on a RABA bus produced a knife and punched a man before getting off of the bus.
It happened on October 12 when the Redding Area Bus Authority carried passengers near Cascade Boulevard and Harvest Drive.
Around 1:00 a.m., a man acted erratically and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Another passenger attempted to intervene and prevent what he thought could become an assault.
The man and the suspect struggled during which time the suspect showed a knife. Another passenger also tried to help and the suspect punched him in the face with his fist.
43-year-old Salvador Edward Juarez of Shasta Lake City then exited the bus, but responding officers caught him nearby in a parking lot.
Medical personnel treated the two citizens who attempted to intervene. During the altercation they did not receive any wounds from the brandished knife.
Witnesses positively identified Juarez as the suspect. Officers booked him on charges of assault, battery and related charges.
