ATWATER – On October 19 at 4:15 p.m. offers conducted a probation search at the home of 23-year-old Gustavo Betancourt after the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Unit developed information that he had firearms at his home in violation of his probation guidelines. The search of the residence in the 5200 block of Crest Road in Atwater indeed produced a handgun and ammunition.
While at the residence, officers also contacted 20-year-old Martin Sanchez, who was also on probation and had a felony warrant out for his arrest.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail. Betancourt faces weapons charges and Sanchez was booked for the felony warrant.
