SANTA CRUZ – A Santa Cruz Police Department Ranger spotted a suspect in an August arson, which led to his arrest on Sunday October 29.
The arson occurred on August 22 at 4:44 a.m. A small and suspicious fire in a landscaped area in the 1100 block of River Street brought fire department responses.
The fires fortunately only produced minor damage to ground cover. Then, at about the same time, someone vandalized the Tannery Arts Center complex.
Surveillance video confirmed that the same suspect lit the fires and committed the vandalism.
On Sunday at 3:40 p.m. a Ranger spotted 25-year-old Eduardo Lopez walking in the 100 block of Emmett Street and recognized him as the suspect from the August incidents.
Furthermore, the transient already had two outstanding warrants out. He now faces arson and felony vandalism charges as well.
