SAN LEANDRO — Millions of dollars, guns and a large quantity of cannabis were confiscated from two brothers. Both men are in custody—suspected of running a major drug trafficking operation.
Their brotherly arrests resulted from an earlier investigation of a gunfight between occupants of two speeding cars. Riddled with bullet holes, one of the cars was found abandoned on an Interstate 580 freeway ramp.
On October 25 at about 2 a.m., a gun battle occurred between cars racing along three blocks of MacArthur Boulevard. The shootout left a trail of bullet casings strewn along the roadway, which runs adjacent to Interstate 580.
Inside the abandoned car, police found approximately six pounds of cannabis. However, officers were unable to locate anyone involved in the shootout at that time.
After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, police identified the driver of the abandoned car. Next, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence in Hayward on Halloween.
Inside the home, authorities located several duffel bags filled with nearly $2 million in cash. In addition, they found a stash of 180 pounds of cannabis, four guns, ammunition, and high-capacity magazines.
Other evidence seized during the search included a cash counting machine, scales and packaging materials. In another car belonging to one of the brothers, police found another $43,000 in cash, and another pound of pot.
Police arrested 30-year-old Kyle P. Booth, 30 and his brother 27-year-old Kameron P. Booth, both Antioch residents. Each man remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
“The street value of the marijuana alone is close to $1 million, coupled with the cash and other assets, makes this the largest asset seizure by the San Leandro Police Department,” said Lt. Isaac Benabou, in a prepared statement.
The charges for both men are possession of marijuana for sale, transportation or sale of marijuana, and illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine. Their next court date is November 13.
