SAN RAFAEL — A security guard was arrested while carrying a banned pistol outside a school on Wednesday. The dubious guard was booked on six weapons-related charges, and for several outstanding warrants.

Before the start of school on November 7, a patrol officer noticed a suspicious vehicle on Bayview Street. It was parked next to Short Elementary School at about 4 a.m.

The officer determined the vehicle was associated with a young man wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant. Authorities in Contra Costa County were keen to find him.

In fact, the fellow was a convicted felon, prohibited from having weapons, on probation, and subject to police search. Accordingly, the officer searched the vehicle, and found more trouble.

Hidden inside the vehicle, the officer located an unregistered automatic pistol, along with a loaded high-capacity magazine. Making matters worse, the type of pistol was considered to be banned in California.

Consequently, the guard, a 21-year-old San Rafael resident, Tyler Revels, was arrested at 4:15 a.m. Revels was booked at Marin County Jail, where he remains in custody awaiting arraignment.

Revels faces charges for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and possession of a firearm in a school zone. His other charges concern the ammunition found in his possession, and his firearms prohibition.

Regarding his outstanding warrants, Revel faces another seven felony and misdemeanor charges. These include assault, domestic abuse, and making criminal threats, among other offenses.
