Santa Barbara County – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department works in close collaboration with Isla Vista Foot Patrol and the Goleta City Police Department in an effort to interdict narcotics traffic targeting the area’s college-age population.
Anyone attempting to sell illicit drugs in proximity to the campus of UCSB quickly comes to the attention of multiple undercover law enforcement initiatives.
Evidence of the SBSD focus on the problem of ongoing drug sales in the Goleta and Isla Vista communities was apparent with the November 19th arrest of 56-year-old Goleta resident Daniel Lee Harris.
Harris had fallen under suspicion pursuant to his activities in connection with narcotics sales earlier in the month.
According to SBSD Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Bureau and the Goleta City Police had Harris in their sights in the pre-dawn hours of the 19th when they served a search warrant on his Ellwood Beach Drive residence.
Once inside Harris’ residence, the cops discovered “over an ounce of methamphetamine, half an ounce of heroin, and other items indicative of narcotics sales.”
Harris was promptly taken into custody and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of heroin for the purpose of sales.
Harris remains in custody, with his bail set at $35,000.
