Santa Barbara County – 65-year-old Santa Barbara resident Scott Luikart has recently learned a thing or two about the wisdom of pulling a knife as a way of making his argumentative points.
According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, on the afternoon of December 2nd Luikart was involved in “a verbal altercation” with another man.
That argument took place on a major thoroughfare in the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara between the Goleta and Santa Barbara city limits. Things escalated to the point that Luikart allegedly “pulled a knife and slashed the victim’s hand.”
At that point, passersby became involved. A call was placed alerting the Santa Barbara County Public Safety Dispatch Center that reported “a suspect was being held down after pulling a knife.”
Responding deputies immediately made contact with Luikart, who received minor injuries himself during the fracas. The immediately ensuing investigation indicated that Luikart had indeed injured the victim. He was then transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via ambulance and treated for his injuries.
After receiving medical attention, Luikart was arrested and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in custody with his bail set at $30,000.
