Policing One Step Ahead of the Perpetrators Nabs Two Burglars
CLAREMONT – A savvy officer stayed one step ahead of a recent rash of burglaries and break-ins in the area. When nearby La Verne PD alerted that the local T-Mobile was hit by a pry-in attempt at 4:33 AM, Claremont PD took swift action.
A welfare check at the T-Mobile on Auto Center Drive revealed a black Ford Focus backed up to the rear door. Cardboard concealed the license plates.
Two suspects spotted the officer and immediately fled in the car. An officer pursuit resulted in a stop and detainment of the two perpetrators.
A records check of the suspects clad in hooded sweatshirts and dark clothing listed outstanding warrants for the passenger. Additionally, the passenger was discovered to be using an alias.
A vehicle search uncovered a ski mask, gloves, beanies, bandannas, and a yellow pry bar.
Police Commissioner Ed Reece announced, “Both suspects were arrested for attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Additional follow-up with La Verne PD confirmed that these were the same suspects who had attempted the burglary at La Verne’s T-Mobile.
Arrested were 30-year-old Long Beach resident Donavan Halcomb and 32-year-old Long Beach resident Durrell Charles Shell.”
