SANTA CRUZ – Santa Cruz Police Department officers were on the lookout for 28-year-old Cody Franklin who had warrants for fighting with police and and evading.
On December 4th at 2:00 a.m., officers located a PT Cruiser “associated with Franklin.” In the front seat they saw his girlfriend, 37-year-old April Wilson. They also spotted Franklin trying to hide in the back seat.
Officers had to pull Wilson out of the vehicle. Then Franklin jumped into the front seat and managed to start the Cruiser.
Once he did, he drug one officer, struck a second one and nearly hit a third before “ramming a parked vehicle.”
As officers removed Frankin, he continued to fight, inviting the use of a taser to subdue him.
Franklin went through a medical clearance, and then was arrested and charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, felony DUI, probation violation, evading and resisting arrest. He also was booked for the warrants out on him.
For her trouble, Wilson was charged with resisting arrest and being an accessory to a crime.
