IRWINDALE – Police Officers gave an immediate response to the local AM-PM at 16000 Foothill Blvd. at 10:21 PM on December 20th for a disturbance call about a destructive tirade.
There, an erratically-acting, heavily-intoxicated man was outside in the parking lot. He was detained while officers investigated the scene inside, which was trashed.
Originally, the seriously-inebriated man arrived along with his wife and kids. Once he found out that the gas pumps had been turned off for the store’s remodeling, the man went from zero-to-60 in the store aisles.
Shelves were slammed to the floor, spilling their contents all over. The man threw objects and caused significant damage.
It wasn’t a one-time hurl. This full-blown tirade featured an enraged drunk response of walking in and out, only to return and throw objects across the store.
The damage increased exponentially as the terrified store clerk dialed 911 while concealed behind the counter.
“Several shelves, food racks, and displays were knocked over, broken, or damaged during the man’s outburst,”said the Irwindale PD. “Containers of snacks, food, alcohol, convenience items and miscellaneous merchandise were also damaged or destroyed. Preliminary estimates value the damage at between $3,000 to $5,000.”
The enraged suspect, Alfred Martinez (31)of El Monte, was arrested by Irwindale police officers for felony vandalism and public intoxication. Held on $20,000 bail, Martinez was booked at Glendora PD Jail. He posted bail and was released until his day in court.
