REDDING – Early on the morning of December 28th a citizen called the Redding Police Department concerning the theft of a FEMA travel trailer from the Reddingwood Mobile Home Park.
FEMA had supplied the $30,000 trailer for victims of the recent Camp Fire. The caller reportedly saw a white Chevy SUV dragging the trailer off of the lot at the mobile home park.
It turns out a second trailer had also been stolen during the night. It didn’t take long for the RPD and FEMA to locate one of the trailers on Highway 44 near Palo Cedro.
A helicopter overhead directed officers on the ground to a residence on Old Highway 44 Drive.
58-year-old Wayne Jerome Bergman was arrested for the theft of the trailer. Two other males at the home had warrants out for their arrest.
Officers then located the other stolen trailer at a residence on Albatross Way. Although the homeowner at the Albatross Way house, identified himself as Bergman’s brother, he also reported that the trailer “showed up at his residence sometime during the morning hours.”
While at the home, officers saw a “suspicious truck” arrive. The driver, 40-year-old Zachary Adam Crouchley, was on probation for possession of an illegal weapon. And, the truck he was driving was stolen out of Tulare.
