On January 18th, 84-year old Chester Scharnick’s neighbor became concerned about Chester when they were unable to contact him. The neighbor phoned a relative of Chester’s who had access to the home.
The relative called 911 when Chester was found unresponsive inside the home. Fresno County deputies, firefighters, and EMS arrived to provide aid but Chester was beyond saving; he was pronounced deceased.
Noticing Chester’s death did not appear natural, deputies taped off the area and requested the presence of homicide detectives at the crime scene.
Besides investigating the suspicious death, detectives found evidence of attempted arson. It would seem the suspect tried to set the house on fire before stealing Chester’s car.
Originally a person of interest, 40-year old Katreeva Woolf of Clovis was charged for the murder of her relative Chester Scharnick and arrested on January 20th.
Additionally, she is charged with burglary, attempted arson, and auto theft. She remains at the Fresno County Jail with bail set at $1,035,000.
