EUREKA – Officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Henderson Street at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th concerning an assault call.
45-year-old Justin Blaine Carlson allegedly got into an argument with his roommate. During the argument, Carlson proceeded to slap his roommate, throw a maul at the victim, and then fled into his part of the apartment.
Carlson would not open his door to the responding officers. He was “yelling incoherently and pacing back and forth.” He then barricaded the door to prevent entry.
A clinician from Humboldt County Mental Health came to the scene in an attempt to procure Carlson’s peaceful surrender, however their efforts were unsuccessful for over three hours.
This three hour window gave law enforcement enough time to obtain an arrest warrant for Carlson.
Armed with said arrest warrant, officers then forced their way into Carlson’s apartment and arrested him; albeit with some struggle and the assistance of a Taser.
After medical clearance was obtained, Carlson was charged with assault, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
His bail is $40,000.
