SONORA – At 8:30 p.m. on Friday February 8th, Jack Martin hit a guard rail while he was driving his silver Hyundai near Mono Way and Hospital Road.
Martin then got out of his vehicle, took a 4-year-old child out of the front seat and “gave the child to an unknown passerby.”
Upon their arrival, officers found Martin’s Hyundai sedan “in the middle of the roadway with the door open.” The suspect was nowhere to be found.
However, later the same day, a joint effort between sheriff’s deputies and the California Highway Patrol resulted in them locating Martin. Martin was arrested and is now facing charges of child endangerment, driving under the influence of drugs, and hit and run.
The Sonora Police Department reports that the uninjured child “was turned over to a family member.”
