Santa Barbara – 31-year-old Youvany Alvarez, a Goleta resident who just might qualify for the Grumpiest Mugshot Award, was arrested this morning when Santa Barbara Police Department detectives caught him driving around with two passengers in a car that just happened to have been recently reported as stolen.
It all happened, according to SBPD spokesman Sgt. Riley Harwood, at 9:30 a.m. and involved “a high-risk stop” that took place without incident. Once Alvarez and his passengers were detained, a quick search of their vehicle revealed “numerous stolen property and narcotics.”
Alvarez is apparently not merely an opportunistic car thief, as he was “a wanted subject of three active warrants” and is suspected as being the perpetrator in multiple serious domestic violence episodes involving kidnapping, domestic violence battery with injury and stalking. Once Alvarez was in custody and on his way to Santa Barbara County Jail, SBPD detectives then “conducted a tactical search” of Alvarez’s Goleta residence.
The product of that search has not yet been revealed, as evidence is currently being processed with the investigation ongoing. In the meantime, Mr. Alvarez is residing at Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on the aforementioned violations. His bail has not yet been set.
