BISHOP – Atascadero PD and Bishop CHP teamed up to rescue a minor boy taken by his father. The missing boy, later identified as “Noah,” was the subject of a Bishop Communication Center “Missing, Endangered Child” emergency broadcast.
Noah was believed to be travelling in a black Volkswagon Passat, according to the alert sent on Jan. 31st at 1:09 PM. The driver was his father, Cody Parrott of Atascadero.
Two hours later, “Lone Pine CHP Officers located the car, with Parrott driving and the child in the rear seat, and attempted to conduct an enforcement stop,” said Bishop CHP. “However, the car fled northbound on US-395 from the town of Independence at a high rate of speed.”
A spike strip. deployed south of Gerkin Road on the northbound side of US-395, lay in wait for the man on the run. Parrott stopped the vehicle just short of hitting the strike strip.
As a result, the runaway dad was taken into custody. The arrest was for suspicion of Felony Child Endangerment and Felony Reckless Evading.
Noah’s wild ride ended on a good note. He was safely transported to Bishop Area CHP’s office – and returned to family members.
Inyo County Sheriff’s Office posted a Facebook follow-up on February 1st, in the midst of kudos from the community-at-large:
“Cody Parrott was booked into the Inyo County Jail yesterday; bail is set at $100,000”
Atascadero PD posted their thanks to the Bishop CHP, on Facebook:
“We can’t thank you enough for your assistance with this incident and more importantly for safely returning Noah to his family! Your professionalism, commitment and teamwork were top notch! THANK YOU ???”
