LIVERMORE — A feud between two brothers at the family’s ranch turned deadly last Saturday. Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for shooting his brother to death with a shotgun.
The brothers lived separately on 82 acres in a rural part of Livermore. The elder brother 54-year-old Jeffrey J. Murray is a rancher and his younger brother Todd C. Murray was an electrician.
The brothers argued frequently. Tragically, their last argument sent the younger brother to his grave and the older brother to jail.
It seems the brothers were arguing about electricity usage on the night of the shooting. Apparently, the younger Murray turned off his older brother’s electricity, and locked the electric meter.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly before 10 p.m. on February 23. Authorities say the elder Murray reported that he shot his younger brother.
Not long afterward, sheriff’s deputies arrested the elder Murray, who remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail. Bond for his release was denied by a judge.
Presently, Jeffrey J. Murray is charged with committing seven felonies, including murder and weapons-related charges. This is his first arrest, and he is due to appear in court for a plea hearing on March 13.
His younger brother, Todd C. Murray had been living on the family property since July 2018. He has several prior arrests and convictions for DUIs, drug possession and carrying a concealed weapon.
