RANCHO CUCAMONGA – A convicted child molester was arrested after failing to register as a sex offender when he moved this past January.
Jonathan Edward Byrd was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after he was convicted of “lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years” in 2007. He complied with the order up until earlier this year.
Byrd’s most recent registration was in May 2018 at a residence in Ridgecrest. In January 2019, however, Byrd relocated to a residence in the 600 Block of Elm Way in Upland and failed to register his new address with police. Byrd was allegedly attempting to hide his new residency from authorities.
On March 19, 2019, detectives found and arrested Byrd at a residence in Rancho Cucamonga. A search of the home revealed proof of his residency. It was also found that Byrd had been working at several different restaurants in City of Industry and that his current employment was at a restaurant near Montclair Place mall.
He is being held on $250,000 bail at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Byrd was scheduled to appear in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on March 22nd. He is tentatively scheduled to appear in a Kern County court on April 16th to answer to charges of failure to notify law enforcement prior to moving.
Byrd may have victimized others. If you have any additional information regarding this case, please contact the Rancho Cucamonga Police Detective Division at (909) 477-2800. You may call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME if you would like to remain anonymous.
