WATSONVILLE – A quick response by Watsonville Police Department officers has lead to the arrest of 2 gang members in a shooting that took place late Monday night.
The “shots fired” call came from Rodriguez and 5th Streets. Arriving officers saw two men running away and soon detained 18-year-old Nathan Becerril as he hid under a car nearby.
26-year-old Ismael Rodriguez was “jumping fences,” not knowing that just ahead of him an officer waited. The officer detained Rodriguez as he “hid behind some shrubs.”
However, the older suspect did not go willingly, refusing and ignoring the officer’s commands. Rodriguez threw down a pistol as he ran, and it was recovered by law enforcement.
Becerril’s faces charges of delaying an investigation and participation in a criminal street gang.
Rodriguez’ faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and participation in a criminal street gang.
