BERKELEY — A four-time felon who spent time in prison for firearms-related crimes is in jail again. Kevin Gilmore Greene Jr., 32 of Berkeley, was arrested again this month and faces four new firearms-related charges.
On April 4, U.S. Marshals and Berkeley police raided an apartment in Vallejo, where Greene was arrested. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail. His bail was set at $270,000 and his plea hearing scheduled for April 23.
Greene is known to authorities as a longtime criminal gang member. Coincidentally, Greene was arrested in September 2018 for yet another five weapons-related charges. His first arrest for illegal firearms was in 2013.
However, Greene’s arrest this month concerns a shooting last summer at San Pablo Park in Berkeley. Greene is accused of firing multiple gunshots at vehicle occupied by rival gang members.
This exchange of gunfire happened between gang members at the park and a passing vehicle. Greene is blamed for bullets striking an inhabited resident’s house across the street from the park in August 2018.
As part of a larger gang investigation, authorities recovered evidence connecting Greene with the shooting at the park. In addition, three firearms and two boxes of ammunition were seized.
Greene previously served several years in state prison for four convictions stemming from weapons-related crimes dating back to 2005. Greene began his jailbird career at the age of 19
