SJPD Arrests Two Suspects for 5-16-18 Homicide on Sierra Road

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Police Department has announced charges being brought against two suspects in a drive-by shooting of two individuals parked near the 3800 block of Sierra Road in San Jose that occurred on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

The passenger, 24-year-old Jennifer Martinez, and the driver 21-year-old Emilio Salazar were brutally gunned down while sitting in a parked car around 10:00 PM Wednesday evening when the suspect, 23-year-old Jose Luis Benitez Sanchez fired multiple rounds into the vehicle while his passenger 21-year-old Jacob Andrew Martinez looked on.

Police responded to the scene to find that both victims were deceased upon their discovery.

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, suspect Sanchez was in custody at Folsom State Prison on unrelated charges, Sergeant Enrique Garcia said. Sanchez was served with an arrest warrant for two counts of murder — 187 PC, and one count of shooting from a vehicle at a person outside of a vehicle — 26100(c) PC.

Martinez was in custody at Santa Clara County Jail on unrelated charges and was also implicated in the killings. Martinez was also charged Thursday with one count of accessory to murder — 32 PC.
