PITTSBURG — A man previously arrested for battery was arrested again—this time on suspicion of homicide. The victim was fatally shot at an industrial area near 1500 Willow Pass Road on Monday.
Shortly after 10 a.m., officers responding to a shooting incident were notified that the suspect was attempting to flee. However, officers arrived in time to apprehend the suspect who was holed up inside his car.
Officers also located the victim, a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in his upper torso. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
In the early stages of investigation, authorities learned the suspect and victim knew each other. Minutes prior to the shooting on April 22nd the suspect showed up to confront the victim concerning an ongoing dispute.
The two men argued for several minutes before the suspect retrieved a handgun and began shooting. Witnesses were present nearby when the victim collapsed after being hit.
The 39-year-old suspect, identified as Jason Posey of Bay Point, was blocked by witnesses from fleeing. Posey was detained by witnesses until officers arrived on the scene.
Soon afterward, the PPD investigations division took over the case. As of Monday, detectives were still interviewing witnesses, Pittsburg police said in a prepared statement.
The suspect is known to authorities. Posey was previously arrested twice, once for battery and once for possession of illegal martial arts weapons.
The still unidentified victim was the fourth homicide thus far this year in Pittsburg.
