STANISLAUS – On Friday April 19th, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and their appointed decoys sponsored an organized “Shoulder Tap” operation.
This operation is set up to “discourage adults from purchasing or furnishing alcohol for minors.” Law enforcement, working with a decoy standing outside of a targeted store. The decoy then approaches random adults as they enter the store and asks the adult to buy alcohol for them.
Once an adult agrees and purchases the alcohol for the decoy, they are then cited by law enforcement and face a fine of up to $1,000.
The April 19th operation in Stanislaus county lasted eight hours. During that time, thirteen people were approached. Of those thirteen, two purchased alcohol for the decoy minor.
One of the two adults cited was also charged with DUI.
