OLIVEHURST – A boy just under two years old lost his life on Christmas Eve in 2018. His mother had brought the boy to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville in an unresponsive condition.
On April 24 2019, 31-year-old Eleana M. Carbajal, the boy’s mother, was arrested for his death.
The suspect initially reported that the victim had drowned in the bathtub and that she tried to perform CPR on her son for several hours.
However, investigators noted that the child had “multiple injuries and appeared malnourished.” An autopsy determined that the child died from “hypoxia due to acute aspiration pneumonia with other significant conditions of malnutrition and methamphetamine exposure.”
Carbajal was arrested at her home in the 1500 block of 6th Avenue and faces charges of murder and child cruelty. Her bail is $1 million.
