SANTA CRUZ – The Santa Cruz Police Department received a tip on Saturday April 27th that a car was driving through the town, and someone in the car had a gun.
Officers soon spotted the black Toyota Camry in the parking lot of the New Leaf Market. The officers stopped the car and removed the four adults from the vehicle. They also removed a 20-month-old child….and “a loaded handgun accessible to all the occupants in the vehicle.”
Two of the adults resisted arrest and tried to fight with the officers. One of the SCPD officers “is a pro with kids,” and tended to the little child until CPS arrived.
20-year-old Julissa Del Toro and 25-year-old Salvador Contreras, the child’s parents, were arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, conspiracy, willful endangerment of a child and resisting arrest.
