A verbal altercation between son and father turned violent on Tuesday May 7th. At approximately 5:45 PM, Shasta County Sheriff Deputies were called to a home in the 3000 block of Virginia Avenue in Shasta Lake.
67-year old Greg Rodriquez told deputies, he and his son were arguing when his son, 34-year old Richard Rodriguez took things to another level, chucking a brick at his father. Greg warned Richard he was calling the cops, at which point Richard grabbed a rifle and ran away on foot.
Shasta County Sheriff Deputies were determined on finding Richard, calling in a California Highway Patrol Helicopter and a K9 unit to assist in the search. K9 Deputy Thor located the abandoned rifle in a neighboring backyard.
Then, deputies received a big lead when they were flagged down by a citizen who reported spotting someone matching Richard’s build near Twin View Boulevard and Crooked Oak Lane. Thor was hot on Richard’s trail once they reached this area, and Richard was soon located near Twin View Boulevard where he surrendered without further incident.
Richard Rodriguez now faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, and possession of stolen property, as it turns out the rifle was stolen. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail where he remains in custody as of May 14th 2019.
