Pair tries to steal over $2,000 in merchandise from Walmart

AMADOR – A white Acura fled from Walmart on Thursday May 2nd after its occupants stole merchandise from the store. Officers with the California Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle at Highway 88 and Eggiman Lane after clocking it at over 100 miles per hour.

A quartet of suspects were then questioned. The two back seat passengers, Michael Castillo and Shea Smith, were identified from Walmart surveillance video as the individuals who committed the theft.

With them in the back seat as well as in the truck, was the purloined merchandise still in its packaging.

In the front seat of the Acura was the driver Luis Morales and passenger Jessica Meyerdirk, who asserted that they did not know about the theft. Their statements to police were conflicting.

Ultimately all four were arrested.

  • Castillo and Smith face charges for burglary and conspiracy;
  • Morales and Meyerdirk face charges for delaying and obstructing.
