HAPPY CAMP – In early April of 2019 the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office conducted an operation “to deter late-night criminal activity” and also to deter traffic violations. Apparently complaints from the community caused the focused attention.
Some of the recent criminal activity included burglaries, thefts and illicit drug activity.
On April 7th two officers spotted a man riding a bike without lights at 1:30 AM. The rider, 39-year-old Daniel Magana, had four misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest. Once he was arrested, he was also found to have paraphernalia, meth, heroin and syringes in his possession. And that was not all…. Once in jail custody, officers discovered “additional bindles of suspected heroin” in Magana’s possession.
Then, on the evening of that same day, Allen Gibson was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation.
K9 Rocky and K9 ICe assisted their partners in “conducting about 30 security checks, eight traffic enforcement stops, a driving under the influence investigation, and a probation search. 15 field interviews were conducted and a citation written for driving while privilege was suspended or revoked.”
According to Sheriff Lopey, “This was a successful multi-agency ‘team effort’ and these operations will continue in the future with additional law enforcement partners to help curtail crime in the Happy Camp area.”
