COPPEROPOLIS – A vehicle sat on fire at Lower Telegraph Road and Highway 4 early in the morning of May 29. After the fire was put out, authorities discovered a body inside.
Investigators were not able to determine a cause of death for the victim in their preliminary stages. They remained on scene throughout the day. A Cal Fire Captain noticed “a man in a field who appeared to be hiding.”
Detectives approached the man, who notified them that he had a gun and made threatening and suicidal statements. The SWAT team and 2 K-9s arrived to assist.
K-9 Knox and the SWAt tema eventaully apprehended the unnamed suspect. Evidencee on the suspect linked him to the vicitm in the vehicle.
Thehe investigation continues intot eh cause ofthe victim’s death. At thiss point investigators are treating the incident as a homicide.
