About 7:30 PM on 06/18/2019, Fresno County Sheriff Deputies apprehended 53-year old Jose Rangel for his suspected connection with a murder.
An hour into 06/17/2019, a shooting was reported in the area of South Derrick and West Clarkson Avenue in Three Rocks/Cantua Creek.
Fresno County Sheriff Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers responded to the scene and found a gunshot wound victim, 33-year old Augustine Alvarado Trujillo. Trujillo was treated by EMS personnel at the scene but his life could not be saved.
Detectives soon narrowed their suspect list to Rangel, who is known to frequent the area. The public was encouraged to report any sightings of the suspect and on Tuesday, 06/18/2019, a tip confirmed he was still in Three Rocks.
The citizen reported sighting Rangel near their home. Deputies responded to the area but could not locate him. Patrol units remained on high alert. During their lookout, deputies spotted a man hiding in a tree in an orchard. The man was identified as Rangel and he was arrested without further resistance.
Rangel was booked in the Fresno County Jail and charged with the murder of Augustine Alvarado Trujillo.
