SAN DIEGO — 58-year-old DDS April Rose Ambrosio is now in trouble and facing 75 counts of insurance fraud for a billing scheme she concocted.
The dentist received over $300,000 from eight insurance companies for dental work that she never did.
She “fraudulently billed for services she never performed,” said Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara.
The scheme lasted over three years, in which Ambrosio submitted claims first for 28 root canals. Perhaps emboldened by her nefarious success, she proceeded to “submit claims for entire families where she claimed to perform more than 20 root canals on each family member.”
NBC San Diego reports that Ambrosio “billed 110 root canals to one family.”
