Santa Barbara County – Advances in technology are making it harder than ever to successfully live a life of crime.
Evidence of that came once again early in the morning of June 27th when a 911 Emergency call was received by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center reporting a burglary in progress at a residence on Parkview Drive in the City of Orcutt.
The home at that location was equipped with a Ring brand camera which allowed the homeowner to observe and record 18-year-old Orcutt resident Angel Ortiz as he attempted to make forcible entry through the front door.
The victim’s call to the cops promptly brought SBSD patrol units to the scene, which sent Ortiz fleeing on foot. According to SBSD Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, Ortiz was apprehended shortly thereafter and “found in possession of several pairs of sunglasses, coin purses, loose cash and other miscellaneous items.”
Ortiz was transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of attempted burglary, with his bail set at $50,000.
Following Ortiz’s arrest, residents from the Parkview Drive neighborhood reported “Items stolen from their vehicles” during the prior evening. Many of those items were found in Ortiz’s possession at the time of his booking and were returned to their legal owners.
