SAN JOSE – The San Jose Police Department has made an arrest of a wanted suspect in a Robbery, Kidnapping, and Elder Abuse case. A call came in to the San Jose 9-1-1 dispatch center on Monday, July 1, 2019, at about 8:20 AM, which alerted officers to a burglary that had just ended on the 2600 block of Agua Vista Drive in San Jose.

The suspect, 32-year-old Derico Montez Jones, was arrested by San Jose Police after reports by the 81-year-old female victim that the suspect had entered her home in an attempt to burglarize it, but in the process had shoved her and forced her into a closet. The suspect forced the woman to hand over her valuables and jewelry.

According to San Jose Police Sgt. Enrique Garcia, “The investigation revealed the victim was about to exit the front door of her residence when the suspect, who was standing outside, pushed her back inside the residence.”

The suspect had fled the residence when officers arrived. However, investigators were able to piece together a time frame and established surveillance footage that identified the suspect who had entered the victim’s home by force.   Officers were sent out to patrol the area in search of the suspect.  Garcia said, “At about 1:30 PM, Sgt. Todd Jennings located the suspect walking on E. Santa Clara St. at S. First St. in San Jose.”

The suspect was detained and jewelry from the robbery was found on his person.  Jones was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Robbery, Kidnapping, and Elder Abuse.

Anyone with information regarding this suspect is asked to contact Detective Gerardo Silva of the San Jose Police Department’s Robbery Unit at 408-277-4166.
