SANTA CRUZ – Sometimes a call from a concerned citizen is a helpful thing. Such was the case recently when calls came in about a white VW van and suspicious activities occurring therein.
The van reportedly was “attracting a lot of seedy people and nefarious activity” as it sat in a parking lot in the 1900 block of Mission Street.
Although the van’s registration expired a year ago, it sported 2019 tags. Officers contacted its driver, 59-year-old Deborah Kludasch, who admitted knowing that the tags were false.
As she continued talking with officers, Kludasch “started sweating profusely, vomiting and having a hard time breathing.”
It turns out that Kludasch had swallowed her methamphetamine before the police came up to her. Paramedics took Kludasch to the hospital and the Santa Cruz Police Department impounded her van.
