MERCED – On the evening of June 29 an officer with the Merced Police Department observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen driving down G street near 21st street.
Officers attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, however the driver of the vehicle failed to stop. At W. 21st and S Street, 22-year-old Nathan Wood bailed out of the vehicle and attempted to run on foot instead.
Other arriving officers helped to quickly detain him and his flight on foot was short lived. The stolen vehicle contained two bolt-action rifles. The MPD states that “Wood is believed to be tied to several recent residential burglaries.”
